October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are joining the thousands of people around the country in wearing and displaying all things PINK.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink ribbons are the natural choice when showing your support for breast cancer survivors, but with a little imagination and a few craft supplies, you can create decorations and more that will stand out at your fundraising event, 5K, or your everyday. Here are a few of our favorite DIY projects for Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

1. Awareness Ribbons

With just your favorite pink ribbon and a safety pin, you can easily make a ribbon accessory for your lapel in a cinch. For breast cancer awareness decorations, use wide wired ribbon and pink balloons. If you’re honoring someone in particular, add a second layer of ribbon in their favorite color for an extra show of support.

2. Wreaths

A DIY wreath is a standout way to show your support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Get creative with your materials by using pom poms, feathered puffs, or lengths of pink ribbons. And don’t be afraid to play around with shapes — who says that wreaths have to be round?

3. Pink Tutus

If you’re participating in a breast cancer awareness walk or run, consider adding a pink tutu to your athletic attire. All you need is some tulle in your favorite shade, a hot glue gun or fabric glue, and some fun embellishments!

Simply trim a little bit of ribbon and tie your tulle onto it! For an in-depth tutorial and expert tulle tutu tips, check out our How Much Tulle Does It Take to Make a Tutu? post.

4. Halloween + Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Let’s say you’re one of those people who’s highly enthusiastic about decorating for Halloween, but you also want to do something to acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Why not combine the two events? Paint your pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns pink, top them off with a pretty bow, or adorn them with sheer lace and elegant pink velvet ribbon for a no-sew solution.

5. Pink Glass Jar Centerpieces

With a few glass jars, some pink and white paint, and your favorite flowers, you can create a lovely centerpiece for the tables at your breast cancer awareness fundraiser. Paint the jars in solid colors, then use stencils to paint a letter on each jar. Once the jars are dry, arrange them to spell out words like “hope.” For emphasis, paint the “O” in hope as a breast cancer awareness ribbon.

6. Treats and Sweets

If you’re holding a bake sale or giving away breast cancer awareness favors, a pink-tinged treat or sweet is a must. Take a freshly-baked stack of iced sugar cookies or some of your favorite pink and white candies — jelly beans or M&M’s work well — and wrap them up in a cellophane goodie bag for a tasty on-the-go snack.
