Balance of Nature’s Fruits & Veggies is a popular nutritional supplement to take. Many people have heard of this brand from their radio and television advertising. What’s in it though, is it organic and is it better than a multivitamin?

Many potential customers ask just how many carbs, sugars, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients these fruit and veggie capsules contain.
They also want to know if Balance of Nature can help with weight loss, or boost energy, and if there are any side effects, such as digestive issues. I’ll add my own personal experience from taking the product for a month in these 3 areas.
This article comprehensively covers what’s known about the nutrition facts for Balance of Nature. As well as what the company hasn’t provided, but can be worked out by analyzing the ingredients in their Fruits & Veggies pills.
What Fruits and Vegetables Are in Balance of Nature?
The supplement facts label for both the Veggies and Fruits products are padded out with 6 different ‘Blends’ and many foods repeated several times. A more helpful list of the vegetables and fruits in Balance of Nature can be found on their website balanceofnature.com:
- Whole Fruit Maintain Blend: Aloe Vera, Apple, Banana, Blueberry, Cherry, Cranberry, Grape, Grapefruit, Lemon, Mango, Orange, Papaya, Pineapple, Raspberry, Strawberry and Tomato.
- Whole Veggie Maintain Blend: Broccoli, Cabbage, Carrot, Cauliflower, Cayenne Pepper, Celery, Garlic, Kale, Onion, Shiitake Mushroom, Soybean, Spinach, Sweet Potato, Wheatgrass and Zucchini.
Is Balance of Nature Certified Organic?
Fruits & Veggies by Balance of Nature does not use USDA-certified produce, according to their product labels, listings on Walmart or Amazon, and company website.
In 2024, a support page titled ‘Is Balance of Nature organic?’ simply states that their, “supplements are not certified organic. Our manufacturer sources only the highest quality produce.”
Previously, their site had an article that stated that their product, “goes beyond the USDA organic seal” and they choose not to use it because it, “does not approach our philosophies and standards.”
I find it interesting that the competitor brand UpNourish can make a certified organic fruit and veggie supplement, with 61 ingredients versus Balance of Nature’s 31, 480 capsules compared to 180, and for $56 less using the SUPERFOOD code here on their own website with no charge USA shipping.
Is Balance of Nature Gluten-Free and Does It Have Soy, Grapefruit or Caffeine?
Balance of Nature is gluten-free according to their site and the product labels for Fruits & Veggies I’m holding in my hand right now.
Some people see the wheatgrass ingredient and think this brand must have gluten. However, wheatgrass is gluten-free according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Balance of Nature does contain soy though. Soybean is an ingredient on the nutrition facts panel for the Veggies pills and is highlighted in product images. It’s a strange inclusion when most health products go out of their way to advertise themselves as soy-free.
Grapefruit is another listed ingredient in Balance of Nature capsules. Doctors advise some people taking prescriptions to avoid grapefruit due to potential interactions. The FDA has also stated that grapefruit can interact with enzymes in the body that affect certain prescriptions.
Some potential customers also ask if Balance of Nature contains caffeine. None of the vegetables and fruit in this whole food supplement contain caffeine and it is not listed as an additive. Given this, it’s safe to say that Fruits & Veggies is caffeine-free.
Is It Whole Food Based, Vegan, Non-GMO, Third-Party Tested and Kosher?
Both the product packaging and the company site show that Balance of Nature is vegan, 100% whole food, non-GMO, and free of additives, fillers and synthetics.
Their website also states that, “Balance of Nature products are OU Kosher Certified” and displays an image showing Kosher certification. This isn’t displayed on the Fruits or the Veggies containers though.
On independent testing, the company says, “We use produce that is third-party tested with nothing added” on balanceofnature.com. I couldn’t find any direct evidence of independent testing by Balance of Nature though, either on their website or from other online sources, during my research.
By comparison, the much cheaper Balance of Nature equivalent, Double Wood Daily Fruits and Veggies, shows third-party testing results for safety and purity right here on their product page. This low-cost alternative also has objectively more nutritious ingredients for $70 less than its better-known rival.
Fruits & Veggies Nutritional Information: Carbs, Sugar Content, Calories, Vitamins, Minerals, Antioxidants and Fiber
Carbohydrates, Sugars and Calorie Count
Balance of Nature’s nutrition facts labels list 2 grams of carbohydrates and 10 calories in 3 fruit pills. They also show 1 gram of carbs and 5 calories in 3 of the veggie caps. Combined that’s 3 grams of carbs and 15 calories per recommended daily serving of Fruits & Veggies.
The carbs and calories in Balance of Nature come from naturally occurring sugars in fruits like apple, banana, grape and orange, as well as vegetables like carrot and soybean. There is no added sugar in this whole food supplement.
Balance of Nature Vitamins and Minerals
Balance of Nature states on its website that it, “does not provide a breakdown of vitamins and minerals that are in Fruits & Veggies.” Given this, and the lack of third-party testing certificates, there is no way to know the mineral and vitamin content of these capsules in the same way as a multivitamin.
Based just on the ingredients, these fruit and veggie pills would have some vitamins, like vitamin C from cranberry, grapefruit, lemon, kale and broccoli. While banana, sweet potatoes and spinach would provide potassium and other minerals.
Superfoods like shiitake mushroom, blueberry, wheatgrass and garlic are also potent sources of antioxidants and other nutrients in Balance of Nature.
Fiber Content
As with vitamins and minerals, there is no information provided on the amount of fiber in this fruit and veggie supplement.

The company’s site notes that they, “include the entire fruit and vegetable, including the skins, core and seeds” in their formula. With a total daily dose of 3964 mg though, Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies would not be a good source of dietary fiber.
The company does make another product called Fiber & Spice, a blend of psyllium husk, flaxseed, apple and spices. With 8 grams of fiber per 13-gram serving, Fiber & Spice would be a much better source.
Balance of Nature Versus Multivitamins
Some people ask if Balance of Nature replaces a multivitamin. No, it doesn’t in terms of high levels of specific vitamins and minerals. This product doesn’t even list the amounts of common nutrients, like vitamin C, potassium, iron or zinc that it contains.
Certain Balance of Nature promotion sites argue that multivitamins have not been proven to be effective. Whilst there is a lot of research showing the nutritional benefits of real vegetables and fruit.
I personally agree that phytonutrients from superfoods are far superior to the lab-engineered vitamins and minerals found in multivitamins like Immuno 150, Nature Made or Centrum.
That being said, it’s quite a stretch for Balance of Nature to state on their website, “If you are taking a supplement that has not been recommended to you by your doctor… you don’t need to continue taking that”. These pills clearly can’t replace a multivitamin, or other types of supplemental products like omega-3s or vitamin K or D.
If you do want to replace synthetic multivitamins with natural foods as I have, then your best bet is a big scoop of high-quality green powder, rather than just swallowing a few capsules.
Field of Greens, compared here with Balance of Nature, is a brand that has impressed me recently. It’s loaded with a range of organic greens and reds, high-nutrient algae, like spirulina and chlorella, as well as antioxidant-rich herbs, such as turmeric, ginger and green tea. I’ve been adding it to my morning smoothies and it tastes great too.
Does Balance of Nature Help With Weight Loss?
Some people want to know if taking Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies can help you lose weight and if it’s keto-friendly.
For individuals who are deficient in certain nutritional elements, taking whole food supplements like this may help support healthy weight loss. There are also quite a few customer reviews on Amazon saying Balance of Nature helped them drop the pounds.
Realistically though, the ingredients in it aren’t especially thermogenic and there’s not enough of them to make much of a difference when dieting. I can say that I didn’t personally notice any weight loss at all when taking Balance of Nature for a month.
The company’s Fiber & Spice product would be better suited for weight loss purposes as it contains psyllium and flax for preventing constipation, as well as herbs like cinnamon and ginger that enhance thermogenesis.
People looking to get into ketosis on a keto diet should note that this product contains 3 grams of carbs from natural sugars. It also has 15 calories per 6-capsule serving. That’s not a high sugar content but I still wouldn’t classify Balance of Nature as keto-friendly.
Can Taking Balance of Nature Boost Energy?
Addressing nutritional deficiencies can make people feel better and more energetic. Therefore taking Balance of Nature may increase energy levels, particularly for someone who doesn’t normally eat many vegetables or fruit.
There are currently over 18,000 consumer ratings for Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies on Amazon and 286 of these customer reviews mention the term ‘energy’ in a positive way. Another 108 customers mention ‘feel better’ in positive ratings.
In my personal experience, I didn’t notice much of a difference in my energy levels when I took Balance of Nature capsules for a month. I’m not the ideal customer though as my daily diet was already high in superfoods.
A much better product than Balance of Nature, which has made a real difference to my daily energy levels, is Field of Greens reviewed here. It has more nutritious ingredients and a far bigger daily serving size, yet is still cheaper to take.
Does Fruits & Veggies Cause Gas, Diarrhea, Heartburn or Constipation?
Digestive issues are mentioned as negative side effects of Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies much more than I would expect in customer feedback on Amazon.
Searching for terms like diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, heartburn and constipation I found over 100 customer complaints regarding digestive problems and intestinal upsets.
Cruciferous vegetables, like the broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and kale in these veggies pills, can cause bloating and flatulence for some people. The onion, garlic and soybean in this supplement are also known gas promoters.
Freeze-dried veggie powders are generally much easier to digest than whole vegetables though. And I didn’t personally notice any of these side effects taking Balance of Nature for a month at the recommended dose, even when I took the capsules on an empty stomach as a test.
The Fiber & Spice product is marketed as a solution to constipation, though its ingredients may cause gassiness, have a laxative effect for some people, and even cause diarrhea if you take too much.
Is Balance of Nature Healthy or Not?
Fruits & Veggies by Balance of Nature is made of freeze-dried vegetables and fruit that are predominantly healthy and nutritious, with the exception of the raw soybean.
They are not organic though, so there’s some question on pesticide contamination, especially given the company doesn’t provide proof of third-party testing for contaminants.
Cheaper competitor Double Wood Daily Fruits and Veggies is independently tested. You can see the third-party safety and purity testing certificates right here on their product page. They are also a full $70 less, despite having objectively better ingredients.
Another good alternative is Upnourish, with 61 all organic ingredients, 480 capsules versus 180 with Balance of Nature, and still $56 cheaper here on their website with the SUPERFOOD code.

The Fruits & Veggies product does have 3 carbs and 15 calories per serving. This is due to the natural sugars in fruits like apple, grape and banana, rather than any added sugar.
While it would contain some vitamins and minerals, there are no specific amounts listed. So don’t expect there to be anything like the levels found in a multivitamin, such as Immuno 150 or Centrum.
Balance of Nature may have a beneficial effect on energy levels and help with weight loss for people who rarely eat veggies and fruit. It’s a very expensive supplement though for the relatively small amount of powdered whole foods that you get.
If you wanted to take a daily fruit and vegetable supplement there are much better and cheaper alternatives in this comparison guide (some are even organic). There are also Balance of Nature substitutes and equivalents here, many with the same ingredients for less than half the cost.
Overall, there is some nutrition in Balance of Nature Fruits & Veggies capsules. It’s clear to me though that you can do much better nutrient wise with a well-designed organic green powder like BrickHouse Nutrition’s Field of Greens.
