Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health

MCHSO sponsored students from across Drexel to join the team and participate in the walk.

Students participated for a variety of reasons and shared that they enjoyed coming together on a Saturday morning to enjoy the outdoors together and walk for such an important cause.

“As a first-year graduate student, I loved being able to meet new people and get involved in the community for a great cause!” said Kayla Layne, a master’s student in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Drexel’s College of Arts and Sciences. “I will definitely be attending next year’s walk.”

The 5K walk is one of many ways MCHSO plans to engage with the community and increases awareness of public health topics relevant to maternal and child health populations throughout the 2024-25 academic year.

“The walk was a great opportunity to connect with fellow students and talk about the power of collaboration in raising awareness for public health initiatives,” said Pooja Yelgunde, MCHSO Events Coordinator and MPH in Epidemiology student. “It was incredible to witness such a large and passionate group of individuals coming together for the cause of spreading awareness about breast cancer.”

MCHSO welcomes undergraduate and graduate students from across Drexel to get involved in the organization. Upcoming fall quarter events include an MCH Grocery Bag Trivia night with prizes, MCH journal club, and service events for the upcoming holidays.

MCHSO provides leadership and public health information essential in the promotion, improvement, and maintenance of the overall health status of women, children, infants, and families. Through guest speakers, article discussions, and community engagements, the organization explores a broad range of social, policy-driven and environmental conditions that impact the health of mothers, children, and families. MCHSO is a part of Dornsife’s Maternal and Child Health Program.
